ErnestLombardi.com is my personal blog. This space serves as a spot for me to collect my thoughts and observations on gaming, movies, music, and web development.
Please be warned, some of this stuff is pretty cringe-worthy, but every once and a while I do manage to capture something worth while. Feel free to visit and poke through the archives. You'll also find links here to contact me via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Why do restaurants have aweful websites? I'm not sure, but when I had the chance to develop a restaurant site myself I did my damnedest to make sure it was as useful as possible.
CassWestbrook.com presents the user with the full menu, phone number, address, and hours of operation. That's it. No useless Flash. No gimmicks. Just the information you need.
The site features a liquid layout, optimized for SEO and mobile web browsing.
I recommend the Scallops Marsala.
The global header serves as a site's brand identifier. But more than this, the header incorporates vital functionality for SEO and UI/UX that go above and beyond simple look and feel.
At LLBean.com the global header provides primary site navigation, search, and shopping bag widget functionality. Other features also include optional, configurable promotional spaces and the customer service widget.
LLBeanSignature.com was a challenging project. Several creative changes late in the process could have delayed the site launch. Fortunately, I had implemented a rigorously scoped style sheet framework that allowed for rapid changes with minimal turnaround.
L.L.Bean is perhaps best known for their legendary customer service. This project gave shoppers access to that same level of service via the web. Through email, live chat, or callback request, website users can now get the most of their L.L.Bean experience.
Extensive work was required to update and integrate web functionality with existing customer service infrastructures.
The product page is the heart and soul of any e-commerce site. It needs to be fast, functional, and fully accessible.
The product pages for LLBean.com feature a wide range of items and ordering scenarios. Everything from flip-flops-to-couches and chinos-to-toboggans are showcased here.
A cohesive UI/UX was required to present product attributes, availability, and customization.
What's better than great products on great product pages? Great products on great product pages with video!
This project required building an easily configurable widget for the existing product page that would allow content publishers to assign product videos with minimal effort.
The result is a simple pop-in that requires only the address of the Flash movie to be played when a user clicks the video icon.
Monogramming. Hey, it's free if you have a L.L.Bean Visa card. Why not?
It turns out that monogramming is really, really complicated (Especially on the scale that occurs at L.L.Bean). But users don't want complicated. They want clean, smooth, intuitive functionality. Visit the site and try it for yourself.
